Day 2

Hello to you all from New Orleans,
This was our 2nd day of work and we are really starting to feel it. The work is hard, but as we go we are finding purpose and helping to motivate each other.
We finished the house that we worked on yesterday and it is ready for re-construction to begin. After lunch we moved on to our second house, which had been cleared of belongings but none of the “de-construction” (demolition) had begun. We got a huge amount done this afternoon and will get back to it on Thursday.

Tomorrow we get a bit of a break. We will be working at a food distribution center instead of the house. Also we will get a bit of a tour of the city from Alex, our Northwest Medical Teams Coordinator. We are looking forward to learning more about the city.
There have been many fascinating experiences and things that we have seen. Notably, today we took a break from working and drove to a place where the levee is being repaired several blocks from the house we worked on. It is hard to put into perspective, and even harder to get a picture of because it was so huge. But the houses nearest the breach told the story. Some totally devastated, one even missing off it’s foundation entirely, and a few being worked on. The scope of this event is massive. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you all in person. We miss you and we will see you soon.
